Caravan Storage Advice

Now you've finished you latest adventure and you want to store the caravan, but with a tincture of tender loving care. If you want to help make sure you get many years out of your caravan, here's a few tips that'll help when it comes to storing your home-on-wheels.

Caravan Cleaning

Cleaning is key. The first step in stowing your caravan should happen at the end of your last adventure. Time put into cleaning inside, outside, on top and underneath.

Firs up, remove the road grime with either a strong hose or gurney. Use a bucket of mild detergent and a cloth next to remove the bugs and mud. The best bet is to use automotive soap and wax to add a layer of protection. Alternatively, invest in any of a number of caravan cleaning products like Camco Pro, Muk Junkie, Vroom RV cleaner or Purple exterior motorhome or caravan cleaner.  Whatever you choose, take your time and wash out every exterior nook and cranny.

Roof

The roof needs to be clean, despite being tricky to reach. Most importantly here is to clear off leaf litter and other debris then hose off the dust.

It is important to check for mould, clean the hatches and seals.

Finally, give the TV aerial a once over, and check its instruction manual to see whether it should be lubricated with a bit of grease, lanolin or silicone spray, as they can differ.

Water tanks

It is probably not a good move to leave water in the tan. However, one approach is to use a tank cleaning solution, take the van for a drive and let it slosh around for a bit then drain your tanks completely.

Some caravan owners swear by adding bicarb and vanilla to the tank - allow that to slosh about for a while then drain that out. It's an alternative to the commercial products. Don't forget to drain the tank and refill it before heading off on your next adventure.

Remove food and keep it dry

Make sure  RV is completely dry before placing a cover over it otherwise all the effort you went to to clean off the mould may go to waist.

You don't want to attract vermin so make sure that there are no traces of food. That way you'll make sure your house on wheels is less likely to become a mouse-house on wheels.
